Skopje. European Parliament’s resolution, voted on Wednesday by the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs over MEP Zoran Thaler’s report, provides a recommendation for the European Union to join the negotiation on the name dispute between FYROM and Greece, FYROMian Utrinski Vesnik daily writes.
“I really think there is a risk for "FYROM", not because I am paranoid but because there has already been such a situation.
Everyone that is well acquainted to the situation in the region is aware of the possible risks. If something bad happens in "FYROM", it will not be due only to the neighboring countries but also because of the entire Europe”, Thaler said.
According to him, setting a date for launching the EU membership talks with "FYROM" will be to the interest of the peace and stability of the region, not only to "FYROM". Thaler called the governments of the neighboring countries to contribute to this goal. This is a message, which should be heard mainly in Athens but also in Sofia, which takes advantage of the moment to blackmail "FYROMian", Utrinski Vesnik says.
The document also provides many negative messages for "FYROM", mainly in terms of the usage of historical arguments in the name dispute, especially when it comes to the so-called ‘antiquisatyion’ phenomenon, which leads to higher tension in the relations with the neighboring countries and provokes inner disintegration within the country.
Under the pressure of Bulgarian MEPs, who have been building a strategy about how not to let Greece isolated in the obstacles before "FYROM" for months, there was a demand for joint celebration of historical events and actions to be taken towards the trust in the neighbors, which have been passed after the recommendations covered the rest of the countries, too, not only "FYROM", the newspaper writes.
